How did we start?
HappeningInMCR was born out a desire to connect with people. As emerging artists, much of the art scene felt impenetrable, hierarchical and shrouded in secrecy. We’d often encounter opportunities, events and goings on, too late or not at all and recognised that there was a real lack of spaces for creatives and organisers to connect and promote on an even playing field.
We started HappeningInMCR to bridge this gap that we were witnessing and make the Greater Manchester Art’s scene accessible for all, regardless of wealth, class, education, race, gender, sexuality, disability or position in the arts world.
What do we do?
What started as humble community notice board on Instagram, quickly snowballed as we amassed a following of artists, creatives, organisations and Greater Manchester locals. This noticeboard has been running since 2022, sharing events, jobs, workshops, open calls and exhibitions.
Since 2023 we’ve been hosting our own events, including markets, our Afflecks’ Micro Gallery and gallery shows, offering artists opportunities to help them take their work to the next level.
We also create accessible resources about the local arts community and venues to help introduce people to the Greater Manchester Art scene.
How can you support us?
HappeningInMCR is entirely volunteer led which means we’re not paid for the time we put in, but do so because we believe and have seen the positive effects it has had on our local community and the people in it.
If you believe in what we do and would like to see us continue to run our noticeboard and expand, offering more opportunities to local creatives consider signing up to our Patreon or making a one time donation. All donations are appreciated and help us balance our lives as working artists whilst continuing to run HappeningInMCR

Greater Manchester’s leading information hub for visual arts

What do we do?
HappeningInMCR aims to make the Greater Manchester Art Scene more accessible to everyone; artists, organisers and the wider community alike.
By providing essential information about the Greater Manchester art scene in the form of free accessible resources, relevant opportunities for a variety of different practices and career levels including paid work. We also offer free event, workshop, and exhibition promotion to our 14k audience over on Instagram, making it easy for creatives and organisers to reach each other and connect with the wider community.
With a core team of working artists, who are aware of the difficulties of “Making It” as a creative, we want to share our knowledge and experience to help bring early career artists to the next stage of their career.
